Poppy Seed Cake
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup poppy seed
- ½ cup shortening
- 2 ½ cup cake flour
- 1 ½ cup sugar
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 4 eggs
Filling
- 1 cup sugar
- 2-2 ½ cups milk
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp corn starch
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 4 egg yolks
Instructions
- Soak overnight1 cup milk, ½ cup poppy seed
- Cream½ cup shortening, 1 ½ cup sugar
- Add milk and poppy seeds
- Add dry ingredients and fold in beaten egg whites.
- Bake in 9×13 pan at 350°
Topping
- Cook til thick, cool and pour over cooled cake.
- Cover with whipped cream.
