Poppy Seed Cake

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup poppy seed
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 2 ½ cup cake flour
  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 4 eggs

Filling

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2-2 ½ cups milk
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 egg yolks

Instructions
 

  • Soak overnight
    1 cup milk, ½ cup poppy seed
  • Cream
    ½ cup shortening, 1 ½ cup sugar
  • Add milk and poppy seeds
  • Add dry ingredients and fold in beaten egg whites.
  • Bake in 9×13 pan at 350°

Topping

  • Cook til thick, cool and pour over cooled cake.
  • Cover with whipped cream.
