Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups flour unsifted
  • 2 cups sugar divided
  • 1 cup margarine softened
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cup Karo syrup light
  • 6 squares bakers semi-sweet chocolate (or German sweet chocolate)
  • 4 eggs slightly beaten
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • 2 ½ cups pecans chopped

Instructions
 

Crust

  • Mix flour, ½ cup sugar, butter and salt until crumbly.
  • Press in well greased 15 x 10 x 1 pan
  • Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.

Filling

  • Stir syrup and chocolate over low heat until chocolate is melted.
  • Remove from heat and stir in remaining sugar then eggs and vanilla.
  • Stir in pecans.
  • Pour filling over hot crust.
  • Bake 350° for 30 minutes or until filling is firm around the edges and slightly soft in the center.
  • Cool in pan.
