Fruit Cake

Ingredients
  

  • ¾ cup shortening
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 cup tomato soup
  • ½ cup liqueur
  • ¼ cup maraschino cherry juice
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 3 cups flour
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 pound mixed fruit
  • 1 ½ pound dates
  • ¾ cup raisins
  • ½ cup white raisins
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • nuts as desired

Instructions
 

  • Cream shortening and sugar.
    ¾ cup shortening, 1 ½ cups sugar
  • Combine.
    1 cup tomato soup, ½ cup liqueur, ¼ cup maraschino cherry juice, 1 tsp soda
  • Add to creamed mixture.
  • Combine fruits and nuts.
  • Add some of the dry ingredients to fruit and nuts to coat.
  • Add remaining dry to creamy mixture.
  • Add fruits and mix well.
  • Bake at 250° about 2 hours.
  • Makes 2 large or 4 small cakes.
